Naomi Moa, Ngati Tiano, is an Afro-Caribbean Performance Artist,who lives on Waiheke Island, Auckland New Zealand. It all started in with Ekome Ghanaian Dance Company Bristol in 1988. I went onto complete a BTEC Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy and Expressive Arts from in 1997.I then took part in an Indigenous People Conference at Wairoa Marae Tauranga NZ and was exposed to the power of the MANA in Kitanga as a tool for reclaiming my cultural heritage as a member of the Transatlantic Black Koro. The body as a Decolonized space for the Sacred Feminine and why public exposure of my sense dispossession as a Black Briton can help me access Joy and Love through Directing Live Art Dance(L.A.D).
I completed a BA Hons in Creative Writing and Dance at Bath Spa University 1999- 2002, where I specialized in Teaching, Performing , Researching traditional Ngoma (East African, Cameroonian and Ghanaian Dance), and Independently commissioned Contemporary Circus Production for the Stereophonic Dub Circus Experiment. I then went onto Direct and Produce Contemporary Samba shows as Cyba Samba from 2002-, and performed in Arts educational projects for adults and young people with a number of Theatre Companies including Cardboard Citizens 2005-6; Collective Artistes 2005, Lost Vagueness 2005, Emergency Exit Arts 2004-5 and Chickenshed Theatre Company (2005-2007). I was made a OneDance Trailblazer Fellow and Curator of Public Programmes at Tate Modern Gallery London in 2007.
In 2013 L.A.D was formed and I directed, produced ,performed and toured Regiment , A dancefilm short about Mental Transformative experiences ; shown at Richmix: Dance and Disobedience Festival 2013, Hackney Wicked 2013, Freeze Prague (2013). I have performed somatic dance ritual with K’lo Harris Company for Salt and Saturation. (2015). I created HOME a Live Art Dance Installation as a response to surviving the Grenfall Tragedy, at Fountain Mill LDN Nov 2017. My last Afro-futurist work was a celebration of extended whanau (family) : AnOde to Dj Derek , performed at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre LDN in April 2017; Live Art Dance has also performed a number of Parallel Actions with a number of independent artists including photography with POP and BURNELY Project LDN, Canary Wharf May 2017, Video Art with Simon Vincenzi and Graham Ellard January (2018) , AV Ritual Performance with Kimetica Transcendence May 2018: , Experimental Circus Direction with The Invisible Circus (The Big Feast) Bristol in December 2018 , Non Binary Live Art Practice: Elsewhere Otherwise ,P.A.F July 2019, and F.O.R.E.S.T Forum For Radical Ecology Studies , MASSIA Sept-November 2019.
